Steven S. Shonder


Steve’s experience covers a wide variety of major industries, including healthcare, financial, insurance, retail, manufacturing and energy. Steve has been very involved in litigating healthcare antitrust matters and advising clients on antitrust issues. He participated in major antitrust, RICO, securities, professional negligence, intellectual property and contract actions; representing both plaintiffs and defendants, including a class of direct purchasers in the Lorazepam Clorazepate Antitrust Litigation. Steve has also represented numerous parties in obtaining merger clearance from the government under the federal Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act.

 

Having had trials and appeals to the appellate and supreme courts throughout the country, Steve has practiced at all levels of the state and federal court systems. Most recently, he helped persuade the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit to affirm the grant of summary judgment he obtained and the Eight Circuit to reverse the dismissal of a RICO complaint he co-authored.

 

Steve has publish articles and made presentations concerning antitrust issues, HIPPA and Prejudgment Attachment, and co-authored “A Dose of Bad Medicine,” published in the Aspen Journal of Health Care Finance, which examines the Federal Trade Commission’s case against the Evanston Northwestern Healthcare merger. He has contributed to the American Bar Association’s Antitrust Law Developments series and annual supplements. In 2006, Steve was recognized as one of the “Outstanding Healthcare Antitrust Lawyers-2006” by Nightingale’s Healthcare News, a publication for healthcare executives and professionals.

 

After earning his Juris Doctor degree from DePaul University College of Law in 1996, where he was awarded various scholarships and honors, Steve joined Gardner, Carton & Douglas, which later merged with Drinker Biddle & Reath. In 2008, he left Drinker and served as an Associate General Counsel at American Dental Association. In 2009, Steve formed the Law Offices of Steven S. Shonder. Steve also attended the prestigious Chicago Musical College and holds a master of music degree from DePaul University.  He lives in the near-west suburbs with his wife, Terri and their three sons.
